Channelrules of #pickup.aq2
1. Introduction
- We made this channel to provide more than only "public"-gaming for the aq2-scene. A public game means, everybody can decide when to come and when to go. Thus the games are not organised enough and a good teamplay with the same players on two maps is rarely possible. So we wanted to have a better teamplayquality even when there currently is no clan available to play against.
2. How it works / Rules
- Just come into #pickup.aq2 and type "!add" to add yourself to the list of players who want to play when eight players are available. This means for you:
speak english
- English makes sure that we can understand each other.
only add yourself when you are sure, you can play
- Check your ping to the serverip listed in the topic. If it doesn't fit your needs then please don't whine around. Just don't add yourself.
- Collecting players for playing needs its time, so be sure, you have the time for it. Oh, and btw, playing needs it's time too:
- A match will have two maps, each map can take up to 20 minutes. But the matches have a roundlimit of 15. So a map can be shorter than 20 minutes.
- Be sure to have working configs. (Yes, this already happened too often)
be there when the game is about to start!
- The channelbot calls everyones name when the list is full, so just make a highlighting responding to your nickname in irc. Preferably, a loud sound, which you can even hear, when you are in the kitchen or on the balcony. See http://www.quadaver.de/memberpages/haui/mirc_howto_highlight.gif for details on doing this for mIRC.
- The channelbot even gives you all the information you need in private chat. (aq2-server and, if needed, password)
don't fake.
- It is essential to know each others name to check whether everyone who was listed within the channeltopic came to the server.
- At least, if your ircnick and gamename differ, tell the other players your irc-nick when you are on the server.
- You may change your name on the server after the teams are set.
- These things can be really annoying setting the game up. An extremely annoying behaviour of people can result in channelbans.
the two captains will chose their players.
- The bot calls two captains randomly, of which, the first one has to join team 1 and the second team 2.
- Now the captain of the first team begins to elect ONE player. The other captain elects the next one.. and so on.. until no players are available anymore. (Yes, you get it.. it's like building teams in school in sportsclass)
every team needs to decide on a map (and perhaps teamskin and teamname)
- The captains need to ask their teams which map they will play.
- The captains may use the "teamskin"-command to change to male/ctf_r + male/ctf_b OR male/cyrus + male/nut.
- The map gets changed after enough people used the "votemap" command on a certain map.
don't drop off the server while the game runs
- A 4on4 needs, as the name says, four versus four players. Eight players, not more and not less. You can screw the whole game up by just disconnecting in the middle of the game. Such things can happen by accident, but if you do this by intention you will not be tolerated in this channel again (resulting in a ban).
3. FAQ
Q: Are "messagemode3"-programs like TeamSpeak allowed?
A: Yes - of course. For the pickup-games we have a publicly available teamspeak server at the same host the gameserver is running. It's address is: 80.190.228.14:8777 (no password). Please join the pre-defined ts-channels "team 1", "team 2" for the pickup.
Q: If I part from the channel now, will the bot remove me from the list?
A: Yes.
Q: Will you put the bot in other channels so the '!promote'ing will attract more people?
A: No, an automated message in channels like #action.ger or #aq2.nl is like doing unasked advertisement. Similar to an /amsg (spamming feature of mIRC) it's just annoying. Join #pickup.aq2 and you won't miss anything.
Q: I have seen a bug!!
A: We (and I) currently know of a bug, which appears, when the game is going to start but someone more typed '!remove' or '!add' in the same moment too. The bot starts the game, sets the topic for a new game AND then changes to the old topic to consider the last command. If you saw another bug than this, pls report it.
4. Credits fly out to .. :)
