(X) FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

(Q-01) What is mnet?
(A) 'mnet' means Messaging Network and its a broadcasting service for IRC. It is implemented as a TCL plugin for eggdrop, a popular IRC bot system.

(Q-02) How's 'mnet' related to 'aq2net'?
(A) Aq2net is a network that uses the mnet-technology to broadcast its messages.

(Q-03) I have seen this "technology" working in IRC before?!
(A) Yes, quite possible. The difference is: I am not keeping my the sourcecode closed. I once asked the Quakeworld Message bot maintainers whether it's possible to use 'their' technology for other communities but noone understood nor wanted to understand me.
So I re-coded 'their' so-beloved technology and gave the power to the people by GPL'ing it. It's free software now.

(Q-04) How can I get this bot in my channel and what have I to do for it?
(A) Come to #messagenet or #quadaver and ask QuAd?|Haui for the bot.

(Q-05) Are there any rules for this bot?
(A) Sure there are. Dont abuse the bot, only english and no replies over the bot! See the usage by typing .aq2

(Q-06) Why should we use this bot, why not just GSBOT?
(A) GSBOT is limited. You can only look for or add clanwars. Mnet can be used for other things like news, announcements, tourneys, important results, leagues.. etc. Mnet is flexible. GSBOT spams the main-channel and only has the originating channel as argument, so you cant use it in a key protected channel but with Mnet you can let the bot sit in a key protected channel and say in your message: "You find me at #quadaver" for example.
One could say the AQ2-bots and GSBOT are not competing, because they are too different. Thus said, GSBOT is quite good for searching clanwars. AQ2-bots can do more flexible things.

(Q-07) Why should we use this bot, why not just z0rbot?
(A) z0rbot has become a big service for many communities at once.. so to speak of Call of Duty, Counter-Strike, Quake3? Urban Terror, Enemy Territory and Action Quake2?. Of course it's nice to have something that wants to beat everything at once, but for aq2 people, it's much nicer to actually have a dedicated aq2-service. Talking of message broadcasting, the aq2-messagenet is the most important bot network - It's free, it's opensourced, it's even available on http://www.aq2world.com

(Q-08) How do I use the bot?
(A) Type: .aq2 in the channel where the bot is. You need operator status. This will give you a help message.
Like: "Usage: .aq2 need train-cw at 20:00. Rules: ONLY AQ2-related, only english and no replies over the bot!"

(Q-09) Uh, I see it working. Well, how do I disable and enable again for a channel I'm in?
(A) .aq2_disable and .aq2_enable will solve it.

(Q-10) I just typed .aq2_disable and it told me, it is disabled - but right some seconds after that the bot still made a network-message.
(A) That's normal. The network-message already was in the message-queue, so it spit the message out - being the last message. Status-messages triggered by commands like .aq2_disable etc. are always spit out before other network-messages. Don't be confused.

(Q-11) I just went online and me thinks I missed something. Gimme history!
(A) .aq2_history - shows you the latest messages .. (Watch your "notice window".)

(Q-12) It says I need to be opped to do that!
(A) Yepp. That's my ultra secure way[tm] of preventing normal users from tinkering with stuff they usually are not to touch. :-)

(Q-13) Is there a command so it doesn't send messages to all channels?
(A) No, there isnt. Mnet is a broadcasting service. Broadcasting means casting broad.

(Q-14) Do you use colors in your messages?
(A) Mnet can use colors to distinguish itself from normal chat lines. The colors, if wanted, are not excessive since the bot is only using one color. On the AQ2-network, colors can be turned on, use: .aq2_toggle_color and/or .aq2_enable_colors .aq2_disable_colors

(Q-14) I hate you!
(A) That's not exactly a question - but, drop me a mail. Perhaps I will publish it when I collected enough hate-mails. Always worth the fun.

(Q-15) I love you!
(A) Hehe, send me some money - if you want. :)

(Q-16) Contact?
(A) The Aq2? mnet-crew can be found at #quadaver @ QuakeNet. Main-coder is "QuAd?|Haui".

Have fun with Mnet!
