The Aq2 Message Network Rules

You may refer to the content of this page as "terms of service" if you want.

The Requesting Process

What do I need to get a bot?
- You have to accept our rules, and follow them no matter what (It's you who requests. You are even more responsible for the messages your ops(@) send!)
- L or Q
- Minimum of 5 users on the channel
- Nice attitude

How do I request a bot?
1. Join #messagenet and read the topic and this site
2. In #messagenet, type: !request chan #yourchannel (you will get a notice reply from the QUADAVER bot)
3. Read the reply of the QUADAVER bot carefully. :)
4. Sometimes the words "please, nice work, keep it up fellas!" will make your request go faster

A request, if granted, will be added within 48 hours (in most cases 10mins are enough).
Dumb behaviour, such as private messages and spamming the channel about when your bot will be added, is not tolerated.
If you got less than 5 users or no L or Q-bot, don't bother to request. We got enough work to do as it is.
Don't ask us how to get L or Q. We're no Quakenet helpers - try the channel #help instead.
Don't ask anyone to idle (yes, believe it or not, ppl actually ask us to).

Usage Rules

Don't reply over the bot, don't converse: That's what IRC channels are for.
Don't post the same message more than once in a couple of minutes.
Don't use the bot for a different channel than the message is coming from.
Don't double post, bypassing the timer is forbidden.
Don't use the bot as a cheap advertising machine.
Don't offend Quakenet rules. Don't offend national rules.
Be AQ2 related. Be nice. Behave. Use english.

If you think your message could be in violation with one of the rules - for example advertisement for something that may still be AQ2-related, then better ask the ops in #messagenet if it's alright. One example was an AQ2-tournament that was about to take place and several clanchannels suddenly advertised for it over the bot (in short intervals) by telling people to join a certain channel. So we had many same messages, coming from different people and channels about the same thing in a short time. Even if it was AQ2-related, it was doubleposting, it was not nice, it was spam. We heard it the first time.

If you did wrong, you'll be warned: MnetAq2Warnings
When a channel produces too much warnings, the bot will be removed from there.

Why Rules?

Q: Why are there those rules? Nobody cares about messages that you think that are wrong!
A: We observe the network, and we are users ourselves. We are not new to IRC. If a service gets unreliable people will resort rather to not use it. And since it's AQ2 has its own problems surviving we don't want a supporting service to die because of useless information chunks that possibly get send over the network.
We want this service to live as long as possible to support the AQ2-community. That goal cannot be achieved when the many people that use this stuff don't obey some simple rules. And rules are not worth a thing if they are not enforced. So we maintain and enforce this network to keep it as reliable as possible for the community. We are the community.
